There was no question that the fund would be with the Baltimore Community Foundation, an organization that Maggie knew and respected; she had even made a presentation about BCF in one of her policy classes at USC.
The Baltimore Community Foundation is home to more than 500 philanthropic funds supporting a variety of charitable purposes in Baltimore and beyond and honoring donors and their loved ones in perpetuity.

Impact
That Maggie’s life was cut short is an unspeakable tragedy, but out of that loss have come many blessings. One of the greatest is the Maggie Feiss Fund and Endowment for Baltimore. If Maggie had lived, the impact of her work would have been deep and permanent. This endowment supports her dreams in perpetuity. It serves as a vehicle for some of the good work Maggie would have done herself and a source of comfort for her family–knowing that part of her lives on.
Getting started
After Maggie’s death, it was less than a day before Meg, Bill, and Stephen began talking about a memorial fund.
The Baltimore Community Foundation (BCF) staff walked the family through the nuts and bolts, and the Maggie Feiss Fund was created. Its purpose is to help the causes which Maggie worked hard for and cared deeply about: cancer research and care, urban renewal and development, public transportation, gay rights advocacy, educational opportunity, and diversity. Her family added one more purpose: support for people with epilepsy.
Within days, a page for the Maggie Feiss Fund was posted on the BCF website, enabling people to contribute online.

We gave our largest gift of ten thousand dollars to help improve public transportation in Baltimore.
Another grant will become a scholarship to enable a promising young person from Baltimore to attend college.
A third grant went to the Living Classrooms Foundation where Maggie was due to begin work on November 3, the day after she died.
Finally, for us, we made a large gift to CURE, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy, in hopes that Maggie’s Fund will be a part of finding a cure and stopping the debilitation and sometimes death that can result from uncontrolled seizures.
We are profoundly grateful to everyone who has already contributed to the Fund for enabling us to make these gifts on Maggie’s behalf. We hope that through further donations and through fund-raising projects, we will be able to grow the Fund and continue to make a difference in Baltimore and in the world.
